Death is always a shock, whether the person has died after a long and difficult illness, or whether it was sudden. Sha’arei Tsedek members, and those who choose to join as Friends Plus, are automatically enrolled in our Burial Scheme, which is managed by the Jewish Joint Burial Society. Members of our scheme choose to be buried either at the Western Cemetery, Cheshunt, or the JJBS Woodland Cemetery, Cheshunt. Alternatively, cremations can also be arranged. Our rabbis visit the sick and dying, care for families during the final illness, conduct funerals, and offer support to the family by arranging and leading shiva prayers following the funeral, along with our team of lay leaders. At such a vulnerable time, our Chesed care group reaches out to mourners, and we work together to ensure that the shloshim (thirty-day period) is remembered in synagogue every Shabbat, and the anniversary is marked every year.

In the event of a death, please call JJBS on 020 8989 5252. You can contact our on-call rabbi in the event of an emergency by calling us on 020 8445 3400. Both lines operate 24 hours a day.
