About Dementia Club UK

Dementia Club sessions are run at four venues in the Borough of Barnet. People suffering from Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia are welcome to attend with their carers, friends and families.

Each session aims to provide guests and their carers, friends and families with professional advice and information, gentle exercise to music and fun activities in a social atmosphere with cups of tea/coffee and lovely cakes. Various speakers will attend the sessions and also a GP and nurse are available to answer any medical concerns.

Dementia Club UK was founded by Cllr. Lisa Rutter, former Mayor of the London Borough of Barnet (2011/2012).  During her Mayoral year Lisa supported the Alzheimer’s Society and money raised by the Mayor's Appeal funded a Dementia Cafe.  Initially the Dementia Cafe was held once a month, on Wednesdays, at the Finchley Memorial Hospital.  Funding enabled the Cafe to run for two years.  Encouraged by the success of this initiative Lisa was motivated to provide more sessions and approache Saracens in the Community. Saracens provided further funding which has enabled weekly sessions of the Dementia Clubs to be held every Wednesday. The Saracens Dementia Club started on 22nd April 2015.

Lisa, a qualified Fitness Instructor, has now created a charity called Dementia Club UK.

Dementia Club sessions are run at least weekly and sometimes more at different venues around Barnet to help people suffering from Alzheimer’s and other forms of Dementia.
