Chanukkah begins Sunday 28 November at sundown.


Chanukkah is a time of celebration. From lighting candles, eating jammy doughnuts, spinning the dreidel and seeing family and friends. This year we invite you to join with us in person and / or online over the eight nights of Chanukkah to create light together.

Sunday 28 November

First Night Chanukkah

Chinatown Chanukkah Event,
2.00 pm – 5.30 pm

(For all those in School Years 10-13 / Ages 14 yrs -18 yrs)

Join us as we explore Chinatown and delve into the Journey of the Jews from Kaifeng. Meet up with friends and learn something new.

Light One Light: First Night Chanukkah Candle Lighting outdoors at the synagogue
5.30 pm – 6.30 pm 
(In person and online) Candle Lighting will take place at 6.15 pm – join us online

A warm welcome to an outdoor Chanukkah event at Sha’arei Tsedek. Come and see old friends. This is an event for people more comfortable with socialising outdoors, choosing this over our events on Sunday 5 December where numbers will be limited.

Join us for craft activities include lantern and candle making and singing Chanukkah songs. Doughnuts and hot drinks will be served. Dress up warm as this event will be outside. In the case of rain, we will still be outdoors under our gazebos. Feel free to bring your chanukkiyah.

Third Night Chanukkah

Creative Chanukkah Fun and Candle Lighting for children of all ages – 6.30 pm (Online only)

Join us for a creative Chanukkah activity and story-telling with Patsy Maltz and Ilana Eimer followed by candle lighting and songs with Rabbi Shulamit Ambalu.

Sunday 5 December

Eighth Night Chanukkah

Community Chanukkah Party for families and members of all ages
5.00 pm – 6.15 pm (In-person and online)

Join us for some Chanukkah themed engaging craft activities. Please bring your own chanukkiyah as we we will light candles together and sing our favourite songs.

Doughnuts and soft drinks will be served and there will be chocolate money to take home.

This will be a seated event at tables (maximum eight people per table) with limited numbers so please book in advance.

Online Candle Lighting
Join us online via Zoom at 5.30 pm as we light our chanukkiyah together as a community. We will be joined by the Mayor of Barnet, Councillor Alison Cornelius for this event.

Klezmer-ish Concert and Chanukkah candle lighting, 7.30 pm

We are very excited to welcome back Klezmer-ish for an evening and musical journey through Klezmer, tangos, gypsy jazz, Irish fiddle music.

Klezmer-ish is what happens when four classically trained musicians let their hair down, explore a wide range of music from travelling people across the world and fuse it all together into their own unique sound.

This is a fundraising concert to raise money for our community. Please support your synagogue. Members and guests welcome.

Before the concert we will light the eighth candle on our chanukkiyah.
