9.00 pm – Learning Sessions Choose from one of following:
1/ Wherever you will go – led by Student Rabbi Anna Posner
What is the relationship between Ruth and Naomi and how do our individual backgrounds influence our reading? We’ll play with Midrash and the book of Ruth to see these characters in a new light and write our own modern Midrash based on what we find.
2/ The First Fruits, the Bikkurim – led by Rabbi James Baaden
Shavuot started out as the Festival of the First Fruits – seven different edible plants which were brought to the Temple in Jerusalem in ancient times: an early harvest festival which was a sort of springtime counterpart to the autumn late harvest festival, Sukkot. There is much in the Tanakh and in Jewish law about these “Seven Species”. Find out what they actually are with Rabbi James Baaden – and explore the symbolic meanings of the Bikkurim. Plus, as in the case of Rabbi Baaden’s previous “Milk and Honey” sessions in years gone by, there will be ample opportunity to enjoy the fragrant and delicious reality of all seven First Fruits.
3/ A Taste of Torah: Milk and Honey at Shavuot – led by Rabbi Shulamit Ambalu
Come and get a taste for the words of our rabbis, for their thought and their stories. Why do they say that the Torah is like milk? And what do they mean by honey?
9.45 pm – Creative Erev Shavuot Service – led by Student Rabbi Anna Posner
A musical meditation using Niggunim and short liturgical songs
Shavuot Morning – Sunday 9 June, 10.30 am – 12.30 pm
