Torah Brunch – first Saturday of each month, 10.30 am

On the first Shabbat morning of each month we hold a shortened Shabbat Morning Service.  Following the service everyone is invited to get together for a delicious shared catered bagel brunch and study session about the weekly Parasha.

Torah Brunch dates –  2019

Shabbat 6 April with Rabbi James Baaden

Shabbat ha-Chodesh (Ex. 12: 1-11)

Rosh ha Chodesh Nisan (Genesis 1:14-19)

Parashah:  Tazria (Lev. 12:1-8)

Three scrolls!  This is one of those dates when tradition prescribes three readings:  three Torah texts which perfectly capture that fine balance of suffering and joy which seems to be at the heart of Judaism – the honest recognition of the reality of pain plus the equal truth of goodness and hope. Holding fast to this complicated awareness isn’t easy. But it may be the great lesson of our lives. We will be exploring this theme and our three texts at our Torah brunch study session led by Rabbi James Baaden.

Shabbat 4 May with Rabbi Shulamit Ambalu and Guest Speaker Josh Dubell

We are delighted to welcome Josh Dubell to our community for this month’s Torah Brunch. Josh is a former leader of LJY & RSY-Netzer, as well as NFTY in Canada. He currently leads the ground-breaking Masa Israel Journey organisation in the UK that takes young Jews to Israel on life-changing and career-building journeys.

During our Torah Brunch Josh will explore the history of Progressive Judaism in Israel, how it has developed and taking a deep dive into the challenges faced and successes achieved over the years.

Additionally, we will explore current issues relating to the Reform Movement and what the non-Progressive population in Israel feel towards these hot topic issues.
